Big companies around the world are struggling with how to remain innovative. Most are savvy enough to know they cannot always invent products and services fast enough in-house to beat competitors to market. But recognizing the necessity of bringing in innovation from the outside is one thing. Connecting with the right start-ups that can help fill the technology gaps is another.

Corporations should think of the Innovation Exchange as a great way to complement existing scouting efforts in Europe, Middle East and Africa. The annual conference is the most efficient way to explain your strategic direction and technology needs to the entire European and Israeli venture and start-up communities in one go.

Innovation Exchange 2010 gives five corporate sponsors the chance to choose the most relevant technology stream that interests them most. Sony Ericsson has already chosen to sponsor the Mobile Web stream. Other potential streams include medtech, smart cities/clean technology, digital media and cloud computing but we are open to other ideas.

Once the streams for 2010 are set the European Tech Tour (ETT), an independent non-profit organization that has been discovering and promoting both early and later stage tech stars for over 10 years, will work to identify outstanding tech companies in Europe and Israel that correspond to each stream. Only five corporations will have the chance to pick their own stream. Others will have the option of raising their profiles with the investor and start-up communities by sponsoring a dinner, lunch, coffee break or a networking lounge.
