EVCA Institute Foundation Course for Support StaffBarcelona, Spain, 3-5 November 2010
What is it?
This introductory course is aimed at those staff who are not directly involved with investments but who want to learn about
the key aspects of the private equity business and enhance their own contribution to the success of the
organisation that they work in.
This course will allow participants to:
- Be familiar with vocabulary specific to the private equity and venture capital industry.
- Identify the different stages in private equity investments and understand their implications in terms of
administrative support
- Perform more efficiently thanks to a better understanding of the private equity context
The course will focus on two main themes:
- Portfolio investment cycle, from incoming business plans to exits
- Fundraising and investor relations
During the course, participants will be given the keys to understand their contribution to the complex cycles
within the private equity fund and its communication with limited partners.
The course is designed around an interactive simulation of the investment process that allows participants to
experience different phases of this cycle and understand the concepts involved in the process.
During the two-day course, participants will cover the key vocabulary, the different steps in the investment
process as well as the players involved at each stage:
- Setting up and building a fund
- Selection of investments and deal flow management
- Deal structuring
- Adding value and monitoring growth of portfolio companies
- Exiting investments
- Investor relations
In order to build a team environment from the beginning, the course will start with an afternoon activity allowing
participants to get to know each other, followed by a dinner. The next days of the course are dedicated
exclusively to working sessions.
